On December 7, 2022, Lana Del Rey released her new single Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd and announced her album, of the same name, to be released on March 10, 2023.

News about the album is still scarce as Lana has not made many official announcements, but in interviews, Lana has stated that this album will be more orchestral than her other releases and that the lyrics would be more raw and angry.
She said that the songs on this album would be more conversational and that the album will be very wordy with no room for colour.
She described her writing process for this album as “it’s almost like I’m typing in my mind”.
The album may contain 16 tracks with features from artists such as Father John Misty, Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Judah Smith, Tommy Genesis, and SYML.
Why Did Lana Name Her Album After A Tunnel?
Lana Del Rey, a California resident, has always been inspired by California and many of her songs showcase the love she has for the golden state.
This album, in particular, is named after the Jergins Tunnel, which opened in 1928 and closed in 1967 in Long Beach, California.

It is a stunning underground tunnel filled with vintage mosaic tiling and giant pillars, which Lana describes as a handmade beauty sealed up by two man-made walls.
She uses this tunnel as a metaphor for herself and her career.
In the song, she sings “don’t forget me, like the tunnel under ocean boulevard” as a way of pleading to fans to never forget about her like people about the underground tunnel.
There is good news though. New developers have now purchased major plots of land around the area, and there are talks about reopening the iconic tunnel.
