It was quite the opening weekend of basketball here at Notre Dame. The Senior girls won the annual John Oliver Jokers Classic, while our grade 8s impressed by winning the Juggler Classic at home.

Senior Girls Basketball:

For coaches, Clarke and Scott, it was a satisfying result, which they hope will catapult the Senior team into a successful season.

It’s not easy preparing a team to play in a tournament where so much is on the line each and every game; however, the girls, led by tournament MVP, Kaitlyn Chan (grade 11) and tournament All Star, Maecon Glifonea, were up to the task.

The Senior Jugglers won all three games, including a nail biter in the finals versus the host team from John Oliver.

Grade 8 Girls Basketball:

Congratulations also, to the grade 8 girls basketball team on their winning start to their season. The girls started off their league play Wednesday with a big win over West Point Grey Academy.

The girls continued their winning streak into the Juggler Classic Thursday and Friday. The team defeated Handsworth, STMC and STA to get their first place finish.

Players of the Game awards were given to Georgia Baricevac, Selena Quilatan and Lylah Mach.

A special shout out to all the student referees Peyton Cagamen, Kaitlyn Chan and Maecon for their excellent officiating and to Mr. Clarke and Mr. Briones for their refereeing.

A big thank you to all the scorekeepers and to all who worked the concession. Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs. Clarke for organizing this successful tournament.
