The grade 11 Textiles class, led by Ms. DeCotis, has begun the semester by designing and tailoring their very own hoodies.

With a new school year well underway, the grade 11 Textiles class has started making our own hoodies, which is one of the projects for this semester. Sweatshirts are a fantastic first project since we all love to be casual, and super comfortable.

The class has started pinning, as well as cutting their unique fabrics. Each student gets to choose a specific colour (red, white, grey, black, and dark grey) based on their individual preferences.

The project requires a lot of focus, patience, and effort. We are all learning an incredible amount about tailoring. More importantly, it truly is a fun class.

As a student in Textiles 11, I can say that I have already started to enjoy the work we are doing, and I look forward to showing off my hoodie after it’s made.

Some students have chosen to make their hoods using different colours, which I think celebrates the creativity we can display in this class. It is going to take lots of stitching, pinning, and effort for these hooded sweatshirts to be completed, but the end results will look amazing.

Along with the pinning, we have started to sew our hoodies. We started with sewing a pocket to the front of our hoodie, and are now onto attaching the sleeves. When it comes to stitching, we use a conventional stitch to start, and are learning about zigzag stitching.

The stitching is the most fun part of the process. Seriously!

I am really looking forward to seeing the final results of the sweatshirts, and I think it is a great idea because everyone loves to wear them.
